Doechii taking up space: In fashion, Music and Culture

Denial ain't just a river, and Doechii ain't just a rapper—she’s a fashion force, taking up space one runway at a time.

From winning a grammy, to delivering a power packed performance and doning couture looks at the recent fashion weeks, she is having defining year. Unapologetic in its true sense, her bold self-expression and fearlessness is propelling her to the forefront of not just music, but fashion too. “I am hungry. I want to be the best. Period” she boldly declares sitting down in an interview with Zane Lowe. This passion and drive paired with her IDGAF attitude is proving time and again that authenticity is the key to making an impact, and we have a lot to learn.

Her Grammy win was more than just historic- Finishing the mixtape within a month, with no retouches or overthinking, earned her this award that only 3 women have won in over 35 years. Her audacious approach of not over-analysing herself and her creative work has catapulted her to success, and not just in music but in fashion too. From Milan to Paris, her extravagant styling choices is turning heads, raising eyebrows and bringing the much needed boundary-breaking energy that she puts into her songs. Let’s breakdown the statement looks that took people’s feeds by a storm. (or at least mine.)

Dsquared2: The Swamp Princess’s court

Imagine ,a warehouse factory-front backdrop. Somber lighting. An armoured truck pulls in, and boom the Swamp princess runs out to her "NISSAN ALTIMA,” before giving us a fierce walk. A very cinematic nod to the rebellious DNA of the brand. Wearing a belted corset, fur-trimmed bomber, and cigarette holster she embodied the edgy aesthetic of Dsquared2. But what stole the show? The contrast of the micro-denim shorts and the thick belt with a bejeweled buckle - taking us back to the 2000s but with a maximalist twist. To our surprise, she returned again for a high-energy performance with JT, rocking the iconic ice-skate boots. On this 30th anniversary of the brand, Doechii joined the ranks of music icons like RIhanna and Britney Spears that have previously performed for the brand- making her mark as a star dominating the realms of music and fashion.

Chloe: Bohemian Rebel

Out with the boring. And shoes(!!). Showing up barefoot to the Chloe show might make people roll their eyes, but what could be better to capture this bohemian, free-spirited essence? Chloe under Chemena Kamali is bringing light to bohemian chic, and Doechii might have just been the best muse for that- a symbol of effortless beauty. Wearing a tiered maxi dress with faux fur accents and a seashell-shaped bag (definitely the stand-out accessory of the collection) she reinforces that personal style should be experimental and innovative. Go Doechii, maybe I catch you frolicking in a field.

Schiaparelli

Less is more, but never boring. And Doechii and her stylist get that. For the Schiaparelli show, she balanced a more minimalist look with striking details. She wore a two-tone pleated gown paired with a dark blue raw denim corset and perfectly blown-out hair, accenting the look. The bottom of the $10K gown elegantly has slits running thigh-up. But it was the golden jewellery that stole the show - the interlocking hoop earrings, and the statement bangles that added the magic touch to the look. Very signature of Daniel Roseberry’s Schiaparelli. She looked liked royalty, after all she is the Swamp Princess.

Maison Valentino

The year that Maximalism is coming back, Alessandro Michele’s Valentino was the perfect styling choice to shine in. Her look was a dramatic yellow, sculptural couture piece which she wore to Le Grand Dîner du Louvre. It was laced with intricate embellishments that were sparkling light from every angle. It was hard to notice the details with this gown, but the diamond earrings, statement long nails and the edgy makeup transformed her to a couture queen. Guess everyone be shouting “Doechii-ana giving trash couture.”

Beyond aesthetics, brands benefit from Doechii’s cultural influence and digital impact. Every appearance sparks conversation, setting trends rather than following them. She doesn’t just wear fashion—she makes it memorable, ensuring that each look lives far beyond the runway. In a world where authenticity is currency, Doechii is the ultimate high-fashion muse.

Miss Doechii is not just wearing high-end fashion- but styling it in a new way. And of course, we can’t ignore the work and efforts put in by her stylist, Sam Woolf, who managed to pull couture pieces just days after the runway shows. But her willingness to take risks, refusing to conform - both in the realms of music and fashion - makes her a force to watch. From opening runway shows, rejecting traditional ways off dressing or wearing couture - she’s proving that fashion is most powerful when it’s fearless. After this fashion month, one thing is clear: her music with strong storytelling isn’t the only thing that will be on our minds - it’s also these looks.
